Mission Statement
The Georgian Library Association is a voluntary civic union. Basic principles
for its activities are as follows:
Georgian libraries possess the huge heritage of culture, education, information
and knowledge, which is essential for our country, its citizens - each of us.
The management and preservation of this heritage will facilitate its use for
our benefit. This knowledge and information is particularly vital during the
period of political, economical and democratic changes.
Development of the modern information & communication technologies allows
implementing and using worldwide cultural and technological achievements, as
well as advancing widely our intellectual and artistic activities.
These objectives might be accomplished only by the use of well-organized library
and information network, based on the common and modern principles and responding
to the needs of our society, adapting for their changes. It has to be traditionally
oriented on the highest standards and to promote new ideas and practices.
No system can operate without creative activities of the individuals. Librarians,
which always served our country and every single reader with great enthusiasm
and devotion, definitely deserve the best environment for their work and education,
to be socially and legally protected.
The Georgian Library Association is committed to achieve its primary goals
by focusing on:
· Co-operation, joint coordination of the activities,
· Strengthening the dialogue and exchange of ideas between the libraries
and the society,
· Consciously developing the intellectual and creative potential of
the members of the Association, encouraging the innovations,
· Taking advantage of the talent and energy of the young people,
· Stating the precise goals and objectives, supporting plausible discussions
and implementing sensible practical tasks.
